Yes. We file the UK export declaration as your goods leave, and the Spanish import declaration that claims household-goods relief (the franquicia por cambio de residencia, under EU Regulation 1186/2009) with the Agencia Tributaria. We also prepare the bilingual inventory that both declarations rely on. Your part is the supporting documents, chiefly proof that you are taking up residence in Spain.

Usually not. Personal belongings you have owned and used for the qualifying period, and are bringing with you to live in Spain, normally enter free of duty and IVA under the transfer-of-residence relief. Spanish customs grant it, not HMRC, and the conditions are set by EU Regulation 1186/2009. Recently bought goods, items for sale and some vehicles are treated differently, and we flag anything like that at survey.

Generally not. HMRC guidance is that private individuals moving their own belongings do not normally need an EORI number of their own, because the removals firm handles the declarations. If your circumstances are unusual (you are also moving business stock, for example), we will tell you at survey, and gov.uk/eori explains who does need one.

No — that is yours to apply for at the Spanish consulate in the UK before flying out (recommended) or at the Oficina de Extranjería after arrival. We strongly recommend the consulate-in-UK route.

No — those are yours to manage with the Spanish authorities. We provide guidance and time the move so your goods arrive after your residencia is in place.

The Canaries have a separate customs zone (IGIC instead of IVA) and slightly different paperwork at island arrival. We handle this; the implications are manageable.

Yes — all-risks goods-in-transit cover is included with every move, underwritten by a UK marine insurer.

Yes, with declared-value documentation at survey.

Report it to us in writing promptly after delivery, with photographs and the signed inventory, and we open the claim with the insurer. The exact reporting window is a contract term and is set out on our terms page — tell us as soon as you spot it rather than working to a deadline.

Your deposit and your goods are protected by the booking contract and by all-risks marine transit insurance arranged for every consignment — the certificate comes with your written quote, before you pay anything. Our terms page sets out what happens to the deposit if a move is cancelled, and the statutory route open to you under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and the ADR Regulations 2015 if we cannot settle a complaint between us.

What moves it: your UK origin, whether we route Eurotunnel-and-overland or put you on a direct ferry to northern Spain, whether the load is consolidated with others, and how far inland the Spanish address sits. The Canary Islands add a further sea leg and are quoted separately.

For a full-house move, as early as you can — the survey, the customs paperwork and the crossing all have to line up, and early bookings get the pick of the schedule. Partial loads on a consolidated route can often take shorter notice. Start the NIE application at the Spanish consulate in the UK well before you intend to fly; the consulate sets its own processing times and they vary by post.
